Chevy 396 - Fuel Issue - pump? Advice required.
Hi guys, I am a Ford man and have never worked on a Chevy until the last couple of weeks. My customer was picking it up this evening, but 10 minutes before he arrived the car began to stall (after a drive to Shell for fuel).
I pumped the pedal, it ran for a second and stalled.
I took the air cleaner off, and could see no fuel pumping into the carb as you'd expect when you manually move the throttle.
So, I blew air through the fuel line in case it was blocked, no change.
I ran a line directly from a can of fuel, to the fuel pump inlet, and it didn't suck / pump any fuel.
At this stage, is it likely to be a faulty diaphragm in the fuel pump? The engine is a very nice 396 with around 1500 miles on it, rated at around 450bhp. It's a stunning motor.
I would replace the pump, but I wonder if there is any advice whether this is to be at fault, and if it is, would an electric pump be better?
IF an electric pump is better, what flow rate is suitable for a 400+bhp engine?

buy a good mechanical pump not a cheap china one should be fine if a AFB carb / edelbrock watch how much the new pump makes for psi needs to be lower for them carbs or they will floodIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
