a few questions for the experts. IM planing on getting a dart big M block. Wich cams fit it mark4-5-6 some places list differnt cams for the differnt gen of blocks Howards lists the cam i want under mark 4 will it fit the dart block or will i have to get a custom grind to those specs made to fit newer block . WHAT is the differnce in them ?
HAS anyone used those isky easy roll solid roller lifters ive herd way to many horror story about roller lifters looseing the pins out of them . HOW do they hold up?

you can put any cam in a big M if you want the mark 6 cam in it .you have to used a step nose cam and mark 6 chain set . if you do not want to use this cam then is a mark 4 and mark 4 timing set . lifter should be taller 300 body lifters if your using a sold roller .if you are going HYD roller your block may come with hold down to use the stock gM lifters. dog bones .Gm hold down /spider. if a big cam i would not use the stock gm lifter. there many that make a long body hyd roller lifter . pins do not just fail off the bat many things play in to how long the pins will last . telling how big of a cam your using will help along with what you going to use the engine for Hippo lifters helpIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

PAT thanks i wasnt shure what the differnce was between them and ill use a markIV cam then as for cam ide never use a hyrd roller cam only a solid roller i didnt look specs up but around 270 int 280ex at.50th it was right around 700 lift it was around 4 to7600 rpm range for use maybe the strip once just to see what itll do if it hooks up but mainly pleasure on the street not a daily driver roll cage no heater back seat is all tubs 488 gear in a nova i dont mind pullen lifters every winter to inspect or replace them i just dont want to worry about them thought maybe those isky ones were the answer

i used many cams this size on the street for 30 years . run good oil like brad pen with zinc use the crower hippo roller lifters can go solid bearing iskys thats a upgrade on a red zone thats a $1200.+ roller if you did not buy the block you could have dart set it up for a bigger lifter use a jesel roller lifters . in the past i just used the crane bulk lifter run them .then pull them before they fail . if you need any thing let me know i have all the parts and heads 335.345 and 355 . and all the parts to build the short block new with a 4.250 or 4.375 crank so 540 to 580Last edited by pat mccarthy; 10-21-2012 at 01:25 AM.
