I have a freshly machined .100 over 454 GM block and I would like to know what is the largest cubic inches I can build without any more machining

You can stroke it but will need stroker clearance for the rods at the pan rails and bottom of the cylinders

stroke length on a oem type bbc is limited by the big end of the rods, too easy to grind/machine thru into the oil gallery or water jackets------------
whats your goal???? a number to brag about or something that performs in a particular manner????????

I originally had 14:1 pistons and 6.385 rods with the stock 4.00 stroke. I would like to build an 800 hp drag motor with what I have. I only have the short block. I was told that finding the rt head to match the piston dome may be difficult

505. with 4.250 crank . i have two bbc 060 over 4.310 x4.375 =511 i building now and some other with 4.250 cranks . it takes some more work not bad to use the 4.375 cranks. built some . the bottom of the block with a 4.500 crank you would get around 535s .the crank 4.500 could fit but used in the short deck 9.800 deck block. if thats what you have ? rods get short more work needs to be done with the counter weights on the cranks. but bottom part of the Gm block is much like the bowties oil pans rails are in the same spot . cams tunnel . is the same .i have given some thought of the 4.500 crank in the short deck block but pistons added cost of parts and work . will be more then i would want to spend then added work to the crank /work. if you have a 10.200 Gm block its not a big deal done the 10.200 block with a 4.500 crank with steel rodsLast edited by pat mccarthy; 11-21-2012 at 07:53 AM.
