Another cam question
So a guy I know is trying to sell me this cam only have break in time on it and a couple dyno pulls, didn't make enough power for him. He gave me the part # and it comes back hydraulic, but he says they had comp grand it as a solid. He has cam and all lifters for it and only wants $100. It's a boat cam as well though & I'd be putting it in my K5....

I think what Jerry's saying is that you will likely be trying to get your $100 back next spring from one of your buddies, after you install the cam and make a couple of runs with it. If you're trying to move up in the local arena why would you buy someone else's cull? Also, I don't think I'd believe the guy's claim that "...the cam card says "hydraulic" but we had them grind it for solid lifters" on face value. If he ordered it for solids it would say "Solid Lifters" on the card.
Call the guy at Comp Cams, explain your situation and buy a new roller cam made for your application. Just my $0.02.Roger

But ya that kind throws up a red flag for me as well, like said above I'm gonna call comp and get some more info.Last edited by Hoss Blazer; 09-04-2013 at 07:39 AM.

Hoss,
With all the problems that are known to exist with flat tappet cams I would also be wondering if the original break in & dyno pulls were done right. Bottom line, I'd consider any used flat tappet cam to be a candidate for wall art as opposed to running it. Simply not worth the risk of circulating the metal of a lobe or two through the engine, and trashing the block.Roger

Thank you Roger. .
