just did a tall deck 427 for a 72 chevelle street car /strip built it to 540 or 526 would not be more then tech.s 505 about $350 for the pistons .if you want cheap use a 427 piston CH 1.765 then use a 454 crank stroke of 4.000 and a rod 6.405 K1 makes a rod #ch6405aprb8-a with a O deck of 10.170 or a 454 piston of 1.645 CR and a 4.000 crank and rod of 6.535 every one makes rods in this size in I beam or Hbeam. O deck would be 10.180 CID it would not be more then in the CID 477 at a 100 over bore sonic check i do on any thing past .060 on bore. but at the end of the day playing around with a tall deck just to get under 500 CID or just 500 cid is may not be worth the work to some as i can get 489to 511 out of a stock 9.800 deck block cost is not much more for the 511 they would be custom pistons but not a big deal as many companys that build pistons would need only need to do a CH /Compessions Height changes from a stocking pistons. cost may not be much more. Malhle makes pistons but you need a engine that has never been deck is there no room for a deck clean up with there dumb CH built in there pistons O deck at 9.800 deck . back to the10.200 tall deck block JE/srp others make s a 1.395CH flat top with or small dome with a 4.500 crank and 6.535 rod thar gets you in the 525-540 club. you can go past the 4.250 crank in the tall deck all part cost the same for the bigger CID and not much more money or time and with a small bore 4.310 .060 over it 525 cid .125 out it.s a 540 CIDLast edited by pat mccarthy; 09-26-2013 at 10:50 PM.

I ran a .030 over bore and a 454 crank, 400 long rod and 454 open chamber Venolia piston--aluminum heads (not even milled) dual quads, light NO2 and went 8.003/ 169.98 in my Monza in my avarar-------
---------And I think one of the runs was the one in the avatar picture------
