489 street strip 4000 pound car info
I am in the process of building a 489 for my 1972 Monte Carlo
454 bored .030 with torque plate right around 9.5 com
Edelbrock 6045 heads
Comp roller 11-433-8
288/294 236/242 .520/.540
1.7 roller rockers
Comp 930 springs
15854 short travel lifters
tool steel retainers and valve locksEdelbrock performer rpm air gap
Holley 850 DP
Stall custom built by Neal Chance and Turbo 400
3.73 limited slipp with 255/60/15 drag radiels
Just waiting on my second crank from scat first one was ground off center
I am pretty excited on how it will run since my last moter was a 402 with same set up but comp roller 11-423-8 224/230 .510/.510 and pushed that 4000 pound car to a quarter mile time of 13.3 at 99 mph
Has anyone ran that 11/433/8 camLast edited by Iowa; 05-05-2016 at 12:22 AM.

Sorry, no idea on the cam.
Sounds like it should be pretty fun machine!

Not a fan of using rocker ratios over stock. Duration trumps lift by a bunch and I don't want to load the valvetrain any more than necessary. Here's a build that is similar to yours....
Big Block Cylinder Heads - Big-Block Cylinder Head Test - Car Craft Magazine
I would have built a little more static compression ratio into your motor. With aluminum heads, up to 10.5:1 works well on pump gas without detonation if you pay attention to the squish (0.035" to 0.045"). Your 11-433-8 cam closes the intake valve at 44 degrees ABDC @0.050" lift, making a dynamic compression ratio of 7.99:1 when calculated with your ~9.5:1 SCR, so the motor wants more static compression ratio to run that cam. 10.5:1 SCR would have made an 8.815:1 DCR, generating considerably more power and still good to go on pump gas.

[QUOTE=Iowa;556547]Went with 1.7 and Darrel wikel told me with 91 octane 9.1 is what I want any more tuning must be spot on. Motor made 402 horsepower and 425 ftlbs at back wheels. Should be going to track soon I will post the results
Went with .135 wall thickness pushrods and tool steel locks and retainers. It's got a lot more power then 402 did. Had to use vacuum canister for the brakes but it does idle at 800 rpm. It will brake the tires loose at 40 mph but I have no idea how fast it's going to be because from a dead stop it does nothing but spin the tires.

I run a comp 11-444-8 retrofit roller. Flat top Mahle pistons, Brodix Track 1 heads Eagle steel crank and I beam rods. 1050 Holley Dominator on an Edelbrock Super Victor. The heads really help as I dynode at 600/600. Small cam and good heads!

That's a massive massive cam and my dyno was at back wheels. The car that idles at 800 rpm and doesn't use a trailer nor race fuel. I am just doing a fun street strip car that the kids like to ride in

Well the car wouldn't hook with drag rad like it did.with my 402. My best time spinning tires was 12.8 with a horrible 2.003 60 ft top speed was 107 mph. So more room for improvement. Funny seeing car's on generators with no alternator no exhaust then not being able to run your car because it over heats or battery dies that doesn't sound like fun. But not as funny as slicks on the front instead of rear
