machine and built many 496 for what your doing and much bigger and your not going to get much bigger in CID with a stock 9.800 deck i have done some 513 with a 454 block .but its not a job for many that never done it . the shelf pistons they sell for a 4.310 bore and 4.375 crank in mahle do not work good with a used block after you true the decks the piston will be out of the deck so the CH on the pin is wrong .Auto Tec has or did have a piston that was built for me that would be much the same price as a shelf piston other then that it is a wisco piston .with a K1 rod of 6.405 they are the only ones that make that is under $800. that common rod for 496 /510 build is the 6.385 rod thats 250 longer then the stock rod 6.135 then its custom built piston and the added time work going to a 510/513 in the short 9.800 deck 454 is not worth it the way i see it. but the 10.200 427 tall deck if the right year will take a 4.500 crank so it not hard to be at 525/540CID built some and wiseco make a small bore piston with a 1.120 CH so you can use a 4.750 crank in the tall deck bbc that will get you 571 at max bore of 4.375 so its not hard to build a 560 cid engine with a stock 427 tall deckLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-27-2015 at 03:42 PM.

Well 496 it is lol. What would be a good set of heads to go with? Also would like to know what cam to choose. Competition products sells a 496 strokes kit that's 13:1 compression w/118cc head. Would it hurt to go higher in compression. Not concerned about having to run race fuel
Looks Factory!!
