Chevelle Project
I have a 1970 chevelle body with no engine or trans and a 3.73 rear. I would like to build a high compression 454 but it still has to be able to run on pump gas. So what kind of combo do u think would work best. I have about 3,000 to spend on the engine, i have the block already. Also what transmission should i use. I know a Super T-10 would work but i would like to use a T-56 will it bolt up to the 454, and how much can that tranny handle.

Don't say, "hi compression" and " pump gas" in the same breath......Keep it down to about 9 to 1 and you will be OK.....

Belive it or not, you can gain better gas mialage by not letting your tank go below 1/2 full, someone that worked at Hunter with my grandfather, we did test it on an EFI vehicle and it did improve MPG by about 5 MPG, supposivly the gas builds up preassure in the tank when there is less of it and supposivly ( just what I was told ) will force more fuel into the induction system, it almost seems like it would be even more effective on a carburation system. I'm not so shure on the reason myself ( I'm kinda doubting what the guy told me ) but, it does increse MPG.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

The reason you get more gas mileage is due to the weight of the fuel. after all, a pints a pound the world round. Anyway, EFI systems often have pressure in the tanks.Right engine, Wrong Wheels
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
