    Carb

     



    Has anyone tried a cfs carbuater . Custom made, I got a 950 qf and it has 83 in front and 90 in back and doing ok but idles a little lean and when driving normal runs rich can't figure out how to dial in just right , I put some 80 in front other day and ran great afr was dead on , but my builder said take out put others back on n afraid to much heat in cylinders he said that we're they were the coolest with 83 jets in there on Dyno

    Are you running a full time AFR indicator that you're watching for your rich/lean data? If not an AFR what are you using to make your rich/lean call?

    Yea I got one in my car I installed suppose to be top of line I can watch it all time ,my builder thinks it will lean out on big end

    What number are you thinking is "good" running down the road and at idle? An EPA tune in a newer vehicle is going to be no lower than 14.6 AFR at any time, but for a non-EPA tune running mid 14's at cruise, but down in the mid to low 13's any time you touch the throttle is going to give you a lot better transitions and snappier response. Trying to run 14.6 to 14.7 with a carb all the time is going to be tough, and skirting with running too lean and getting into trouble.
    Just my $0.02, I'd say quit worrying about the AFR gauge so much. Just use it as a tool, and read your plugs.

    I will be idling at 13.5 to 15 , when driving dn rd at 12 to 14 , but does that have anything to do with heat in cylinders, when we dynoed with 83 in front number 1 was around 1390 degrees and the rest around 1250 or so, and how will plugs be white if lean

    Are you talking about EGT ( exhaust gas temp)????
    Was engine dynode on an engine dyno or a chassis dyno???
    What header type? and egt sensor locations?
    Power valves??? it is a Holley type carb?
    print dyno sheet/graph??????

    Yea it is egt and put in collector , an headers are dougs the big ones .power valve is 3.5 , quick fuel 950 carb. I drove car today and put 83 jets back in front and driving normal it was around 11.4 that seems rich to me , but idling I am lean at times I think maybe I can start playing with air bleeds . And it was a engine Dyno

    Has anyone tried one of cfs carbs , guys name is norm he is a carb guru, I got him building me one , he has to know everything about your car, I got one of his carbs on my car now that was built for a bigger motor than mind but it runs like a charm very responsive

    Since you keep asking "Has anyone tried one of cfs' carbs" I googled it to learn what a "cfs carb" means and found Competition Fuel Systems. Rather than "custom made" I believe they say that they are Holley carbs, "Custom Modified" based on "...critical, confidential information provided by the customer". Sounds like an interesting, and expensive process.
    Looking forward to your future posts, telling us if Norm really knew his stuff or not.
