Welcome to CHR!
I grew up with ski drag boats on Lake Arrowhead (California) and we had some real monster 427 Fords and Chevys back then. 6-71 blowers and lots of carbs or Hilborn injection. Great memories of going real fast on the water.
I often compose a post in Microsoft Word and then copy & paste - that way I loose nothing and it's a lot easier to edit.

Posting problem
Just finished moving the cam timing again. Going with Straight up. Maybe third time to charm. I will adjust the valves tomorrow and fire it up.
Sure wish I knew the issues with my posts. Is there more than one Moderator here? I sure would like him to send me a note.
Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have been posting on Forums for 15+ years. There doesn't seem to be a lot of differences.
As I stated before, I have used no links or photos. Just typed my response.Last edited by arock; 10-01-2017 at 08:32 PM. Reason: addition

MRMUSTANG is our Mod, he has a post above yours, the one just previous. And it sounds like there was a link in your post so it went to his que for approval. But I see you mention that you didn't add a link so I don't understand whats happening. But you're almost at the point that it shouldn't matter..

DennyW hit it on the head. Stupid Hyperlinks..... Roger had a good post somewhere on how to get rid of them but I don't remember where it is.
Not to mention, maybe it was just the site having issues. It wouldn't open for me today for half the day, and last Friday it was having issues too.Ryan

If you see words appearing in blue in your post, they are HyperLinks, powered by VigLink. Go to Opt Out of VigLink out - Link here: https://www.viglink.com/opt-out/
and select "Disable". You'll notice that on the link I posted it's already disabled, as I go in about once a month and check to be sure it hasn't re-enabled on its own, which it will most definitely do from time to time.Roger

Finally found the spot. Straight up didn't work. 2 degrees advanced seems to be it. Cam card asked for 108 intake centerline. Degree wheel says I am only 1 degree off that. Intake opening @ .050: says 4 degrees advances. Comp Cams tech said to only worry about centerline, so I did. It works. Still not sure way it is what it is.
Thanks for all your input.

Well, the story goes on.
My cam is a solid roller 260/268 duration at .050" with .714" lift and 108* lobe center set at 107* intake centerline.
2 degrees advance cam timing helped but did not fix it. At an idle, 1300 rpm, water temp goes beyond 250* in 5 minutes.
Things I have done that have not helped. New 30% larger aluminum radiator w/ dual electric fans. Re jetted dual Edelbrock 1405, 600 CFM carbs. Set timing at 34* all in with MSD 7al-3 box. 20* retard at cranking.
Does it make sense that the exhaust valve should open later to keep the heat out of the headers? 91 octane fuel should be okay for 10.5:1 compression? My cranking compression is only 110psi. I am running AFR 335cc ported aluminum heads with 112cc chambers and Inconel valves.
I appreciate all advice. Thx.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
