What cam to pick
ok heres the deal.....I have a 454 bored 30 over flat top pistons, 781 heads, edelbrock air gap intake, edelbrock 750 carberator, no stall convertor 400 turbo tranny, 373 rearend gears. Which would be the best cam for my street truck. Please someone give me an idea because this is the first big block i have built. BTW it does have stock valve springs. TIA Tommy

Welcome TB72Chevyman!
You have come to the right place to ask things, these guys are sharp. One thing that I have learned is what are you going for as far as usage of the motor? This may determine what cam you choose. Also what rpm range will you be running in? In other words, where do you want it to come on at? Just a couple things to think about.

if you surf the threads in the chevy engine section, you will see several discussions on cams. I have learned this so far, they are all good for about a 3500 rpm range. The higher the range you have, the harder it is for everyday driving. Your "Lopey" cams can be about anything over 270' lift. Of course then you start getting into stall converters and other serious speed stuff. There are others that can tell you all the how to's better than. CompCams.com can tell you alot about applications and how big without a stall and all that jazz.
