Chev 283 heads
I hope someone can help me out with this dilemma. I have recently purchased a 350, 4 bolt main from a friend of mine for a good price. He had over 2700 invested in the block, I know it does not seem like much to alot of you but it is substantial to alot of us. Anyway here is the dillemma. I know the heads are out of a 283. But I cannot find out any info from the numbers on the head, these numbers are 333832. Could it be that they are out of a larger chev vehicle, say a dump truck? Could someone help me out?

Bayside, i had no luck with that head number, did you read them right,3- 8 look the same, i found a number that could be it 333882, would be a 74-80 350-400 head 76cc 2.02/1.60 valve.

There were no 333882 heads factory made with 2.02x1.60 valves. They were made in two versions. 1.72 intake and 1.94 intake both had 1.50 exhaust valves. These were never used as high performance heads as the intake ports are compromised by the valve cover bolt boss.
Ported, or intake port matched, they will flow well. They are considered the best of the "worst" factory heads. They are known for cracking in the center two exhaust seats. The factory seat hardening process was not yet perfected and led to most of the cracking problems.

I can't find any 283 head that started with 333. Most start with 374, 377, 378,379,383,384,387,376,388,389,393,394,532. NO 333 that I can find.If you do have the 882 as DeRo suggest that head is a lighter casting and many crack. Although some may have come with 2,02/1.60 most came with 1.94/1.50 valves.there are much better chevy heads to work with.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
