all or just one? I have the tick tick tick or the clack clack clack, but its seems to just one maybe. Sounds like cylinder 1. I have no idea what stroke. SO all or can just one do that? How do you tell if its valve adj or lifter problem?

Ok there ya said something that makes me go hummmm. I dont think the oil pressure is high enough. it sets at like 10 when idle and 20 when driveing. My CJ 7 has like 60 when driveing but its a straight 6. WHat kind of oil pressure should I be looking for? thanks! p.s. I also need to know how to adjust valves. I am pretty good with instructions. I have seen it done a bunch of times but cant ever seem to remember what gets adjusted where. DO ya do the exhaust on teh down stroke and the intake at teh half way open ???? this is the stuff i cant remember. thanks!

The motor has manifolds for now. I'm not sure I am ready to tackle the header fitting job just yet. It sets real close to teh frame so I shall leave that for later. I'm gonna replace the gaskets on the manifold first, take a shot gun to the carb (I hate carbs) change the oil and look under the valve cover. I'll let ya know what happens. Lt1S10 you need to come on down to Charleston SC and help me out. The Wife is active duty AF and when we move every three years its hard to find a good group of guys to work on stuff. We left a great group back in ALabama. I swear, those guys could fix anything. Thanks for teh help! I'll keep ya up to date. K9

wish i could. sounds like you got a plane though. be sure there's no cracks in those manifolds and its not leaking around the heat riser shaft.

ok, SO whats the heat riser shaft? What I have done so far is change teh oil, set teh timeing, and put the vac advance on teh dist on the correct vac port. The guy had it hooked up to constant vac. I set the timeing, to what you ask? I have no idea, I messed with it till it sounded right and checked the plugs. The motor HAD injection and the dude put a Eddelbrock 4bbl. Wold that effect teh stock timeing setting???? When I put it at TDC like its supposed to be it back fires, I advanced it till teh backfire went away but then it had absolutely no power so I kept messing with it. The exhaust delima or leak I should say I have no ide, i cant find it!!!!! I do need to adjust the valves and plan on cutting the top off a old set of valve covers to do a running adjustment. I cant remember how to do it not running. I figure the old valve covers will help keep some oil in the motor. I'll let ya know. The carb needed to be leaned out on idle. Still stinks but not as bad.
