Unhappy firing order 350 chevy high perf.

My chevy motor is having issues. I recently had a short replaced a coil wow 100 bucks. Chevy 350 510 cam, flat top pistons, noisey gears drive <(that has to go). Long story short everything is high perf edelborck. well anyways I took all my plug wires off when I put em back on the recommended firing order don't work. Course I have no clue what it was before. Forgive my ignorance for not writing it down. 18436572 just doesn't do it. HEI distrubuter. I got my timing precise thats simple. Firing order I have is clockewise. Wondering if maybe noisey gear junk went bad. That I shall check next. Anyone know any other order that may work. I sure don't, only diff I see is in buick motor older ones. 7 and 4 switch spots. and yes I got the number one piston up at compresion for number 1. Thanks for any input it is appreciated.

    Question

Weither the motors high performance, low performance or just plain tired, the firing orders just the same.

    350 Firing Order problem...

Check the distributor position. Not the timing but if it is set correct.

Yep, you're half a turn out. Swap all the wires across the cap and it'll run.

Take out # 1 plug. ( the 1st plug on front of motor, Driver side) Take off dis. cap. Have someone sit in car and have them bump engine while you are holding your figer over the # 1 plug hole. You will be able to feel the compesssion. Do it a few times so you will be able to tell when it is on its highest presure point. When it is at this point. The pistion is all the way up on compression. Look at your rotor button on your dis. Mark with a black marker where it is at. Place cap back on. The wire it is pointing to is your 1. The next wire on it,s right is # 8, and so on. Standing in front of you motor. The ciliders from front to back on left are 2 4 6 8. On the right are 1 3 5 7. John.

could it be a Cross-Fire brand dist. cap?
they change the way the plug wires go on.
    1-3-5-7 on one side
    2-4-6-8 on the other side
makes plug wire routing easy and purty!
