    355 stroked

Hey i'm rebuilding my 30 over 355 because of timeing chain issues and was thinking of converting it into a stroker engine. I was curious as to how much it would cost, what would be involved, and what kind of results i could expect. The engine has a very big cam and a double pump 750 which i'm told is a little too big for the engine anyway.

    Btw its for street use.

go to www.northernautoparts.com and check out the 383 bottom end kit. It can be had for a reasonable price...

^ problem with above 500 kit with the cam and the way the engine is set up now it pushes untill 6500 or so would strokeing it hurt the top end?

nope....stroking has nothing to due with the top end.....it does how ever make the power range wider.....and it all depends if you do a short rod or a long rod stroker....

the way the engine is set up it really starts pulling around 4 k and does so untill 6500 i'd estimate it around 400hp like i said it has a big cam in it how would the strokeing react to the cam?

would there be any machinework/grinding on the block that would have to be performed? and would i have to change the pistons or just rods?

I'm no mechanic so i would have a shop do it, how much more would you estimate it to be, includeing parts and labor, compared to simply rebuilding the engine?

read the thread in here....355 to 383....that will give you some insight on what is involved....if that cam works well in the 350...it will work the same or better in the 383...

sorry if im interupting your thread.

But i just got off the phone with a mechinist and i think hes just trying to work me for money by buying his parts.I have a 355 trying to stroke it i have 5.7 rods with 30 oversized pistons.I know i need the crank, but do i really need to change my rods?
He said that they will hit the cam.but i wouldnt see they would if they dont hit now.do i have to bore the mains?and i do need to balance it right?
    Cheap cheap reliable fast....

    depends.....

most kits nowadays are made for the 5.7 rod and 6.0 rod.....some very well will posibly have camshaft interference...If so the you will need to use a small base circle cam....

The crank , if a 400 stock crank will have to be turned down to fit the 350 mains....

there are various companies that make a crank cast with 350 main spec's at the 3.75 stroke...

If I were doing a 383 I would buy the complete bottom end kit. It will be cheaper in the long run and you wont have to worry about mismatched parts....you will still have to machine the block to accept the 383 crank...Kits come in any piston/rod combo you like...
