we used this on a late 70's 265 bone stock and knocked down 18mpg and it had great throttle response ( this went into a 76 chevy monza)
We did a test on a 434 small block with a sheet metal intake and a 1150 dominator, switched the plate,,,used 2- 1150 dominators,,, rejetted and picked up 100 horses. proves my theory.
I have said this before, you really can not over carb and engine. The engine will take only what it needs.
I stand by my theory,,, You really can't over carb an engine,, to an extend. ?????? To an extent-----What does that mean?????
These are all statments all made in this thread and the thread on Carbs by dr_bowtie in the last couple of days.I could not disagree more.
First let me tell dr_bowtie that I know You are a knowledgable person and I normally find myself agreeing with You. NOT HERE!!!I dont think You could give a rookie or novice hot rodder any worse advice than some of these statments on carburators that You have made in these two threads.
Let me say I do not profess to being any carburator expert, but I know what has worked for me in 41 years of hot rods, drag cars, stock cars and performance boats.
As I said, I am not an expert in any field of mechanics ,But I happen to have a large circle of friends that are.I can call on or go out to lunch with any of them anytime to pick their brain to find the information that I need. I did just that this afternoon because these 2 threads have bothered me that much. The one I talked to this afternoon everyone on the east coast refers to as Moore. I have spoke of him here before. He was working on a performance carb for a very fast boat this afternoon. He has set National records in Drag racing and Boat racing with both Chevrolet and Pontaic motors. Back in the late 60s he raced Pontaics with factory backing and to this day has build and does the tuning on some of the fastest boats on the east coast. I read him Your post and like me he didnt agree with most of them. He did tell me that even on high horsepower big blocks he sometimes has to back up from an 850 to a 800 and sometimes even a 750 to get it to perform to its fullest potential .He also told me of a 355 that he had built for some drag racer. He went to get the car set up and ended up using a 600 double pumper that ran faster than a 700 or a 650. He did tell me that there were 2 basic q-jets, the bigger one coming on something like a Buick or Cadillac
He did say they were set up individually with jets ,metering rods, and springs ,I believe for each individual motor.I did ask------What would happen if you took a big q-jet stock off a big Cadillac motor and put it on a stock 283 or 327 what would happen? His answer was , It would kill it!
My question to You,dr_bowtie is---How do You put 2-390 carbs on a tunnel ram on what You said was bone stock 262 in a 76 Monza that had 110 horsepower and have good throttle response and get 18 MPG??? THATS WHERE YOU LOST ME TOTALLY.
Im afraid I have to align with Denny,Mike,Henry, Matt and others. I just can not see your way on this one.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
