Some basic questions (350 chevy)
Hey guys < new to messing with the 350 v8 but a cousin of mine has a old truck that hes going to park and let rust away and Im gonna get it and build it up to both learn about engines and everything in them and also maybe install afterwards in my 77 vette. Goals are not too crazy I think. 350hp to wheels and would like around 18ish mpg. Anyone have any suggestions and or guides or books for rebuilding a 350 from start to finish. Im looking for a detailed guide i can go by like a step by step thing.

I'm sure others here will have good advice, but an easy answer is to get a copy of "How to Build Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget" by David Vizard. There are other such books at car parts store and the Chevy is very polular so there are a number of such how to books, but I have found Vizard's step by step books to be very helpful.

real good eficient heads....Vortec or fast burn.....light weight internals....fuel inection...and a deep pocket...just kidding
your going to need atleast 9.5:1 to make 350hp and 18mpg it can be done though...I would deffinately check into the heads i listed to get you where you want to be.....Stay conservative...thats the key to mpg.....

Cool. I used to race motorcycles but never messed with car engines much. My vette runs real good. Engine and transmission were professionally rebuilt 5k miles ago with a shift kit and some other parts to beef it up some. Would estimate 275-300 hp at the engine. But would love to have a sproject to learn and possibly use in the future. Just want a step by step guide to help. Figured since the vettes running well I have all the time I want to rebuild a 350.
