camel hump heads
I have camel hump heads on my 327, does anyone know how to mount the alterator on the pass. side, since these heads do not have any acc. holes. If anyone has done any custom mods id like to see pictures, or if any one knows of a kit to go around this problem. I have a long water pump, powers steering. Thanks

Re: camel hump heads
There are several street rod suppliers that sell alt and a/c mount brackets for SBC no hole heads.
The brackets can be high center mount or wide low mount.
Alan Grove makes a nice, inexpensive set of mounts that work well. I am currently running a set of his, and can attest to their fit and finish.

my 283 is the same way.It has a long bracket arm with a slot in the alt side for the top alt hole this bracket bolts to the front of the intake manifold. The bottom front of the alt is the same way but it bolts to the top driver side bolt on the water pump. The bottom rear has a beefy "L" shaped bracket that looks like it bolt to the front driver side of the block right between the spark plug and the exhaust manifold. Can't tell if its bolted to the head or block, its a little greasy to see it good. There is also a small cable with eyes on the ends wrapped around the alt mounting bolt and the upper control arm pivot bolt.I don't see the point in that and I don't know if I'm describing the parts correctly but I hope this helps some anyway.Maybe you could try to locate these original brackets someplace.

i was trying to avoid removing the heads and drilling holes, the motor has been rebulit and i havent even started it yet, as a matter of fact its still on my engine stand, i just want to mock everything up so i can drop it in one of these days with no problems. I f i cant find a good solution, than i will drill the holes.

MOST do not have enuf material to drill and tap reliably. Plus the surface is not parallel to the front of the motor. If you spot face them you are removing material from an already weak area.

I have the same heads. I had to make my own from another type of mount. Works fine hard to line up.
The mount is bolted on with the headers. It ain't broke if you can fix it.
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
