Looking for suggestions on first time build
I have a 71 chevelle that I want to build a engine for. The engine that I have in mind is a 30over 350 chevy.
Casting # 3970010
Engine Code V0821TJD
From what I can tell its a 1974 160 bhp 4 bolt main engine. The tranny that I have is a Turbo 350. This car will not be a daily driver nor am I planing on doing any serious racing ( aside from the ocassional stop light sprint). Id like to build a engine that makes power from near idle to about 5500 rpm and makes 300 to 350 hp at the rear wheels. Fuel mileage is not a concern as this will not be a daily driver. Id like to also keep costs down as much as possible. I guess I'm looking for a direction to go with
this as its my first solo attempt to build up a engine. Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Are the hp #'s im after realistic ? Can I accomplish this using say domed pistons with these stock heads, a mild cam and good intake and carb? Can I use vortec heads and intake with dished or flat pistons to get close to thoughs #'s? I know what results I'm after but I don't know the best and cheapest way to acheive them..... Thoughts? Its better to say nothing and appear dumb then to open your mouth and remove all doubt....
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
How did you get hooked on cars?
