    383 Help

New here guys and it seems to be a good resource fourm. Now on to the task at hand, I have a 68 camaro used at the strip only for the time being and I plan on building a pump gas 93oc 383. I would like some imput from you guys from carb to pan, the sky ($$) is not the limit for this 383 so keep this in mind. I was running a very mild 396 (12.5) and have very few SBC parts but I will list what I do have if it should be used. I have a set of Bowtie (14011034) heads , Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake , 850 Annular mighty Demon , MSD Distributor with a 6AL , thats about all I can rob from a 355 12:1 I have besides a crane 555'' Intake / .555'' cam. The car is set up with a 5000 stall on a 350 TH with a 12 Bolt 4.88 rear and has plenty of rubber on the rear (32x14x15). I would like to know some block castings, should I use a roller cam, Mechanical cam, what compression pistons, crank and so on.
    thanks guys

Just curious, why do you want to go with a small block when you ran a big block? Most go the other way. Im just wondering, that's all. Im not a racer, but I have built quite a few performance engines, but they have all been big blocks. But I'll follow along and see how you make out anyway! Welcome to the site. Im also sending you an email. John

You have a fair question, big blocks are harder to find and cost more to build. I plan to get this car back on the road one day and I will be looking for any big block deals I may come into but for now I plan on building the SBC 383 and run it on pump gas.
