Chevy 327
Trying to figure out the difference in a 327 and 350. I believe the crank has a different stroke, but are the pistons and rods the same. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The 327 and 350 are the same motor except the stroke on the 327 is 3:25 and 350 is 3:48.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

The rods are the same length in both engines 5.7 inches center to center . The 327 had two journal sizes. Pre 68 were small journal with the 68 on being large journal. The piston wrist pin to deck height was taller on the 327 than the 350. So you can build either engine size with the same block and rods but you need the correct pistons and crank for the one you want.

Another note just to be accurate is this. compression height for the 327 piston was 1.675 and the 350 was 1.560. this is measured from the pin bore to the flat top or the quench portion of the piston. not the top of the dome if it has one.

Just so you will know
I put (by accident) some 350 rods into a 327 when I was rebuilding an engine one time.
The oil journals did not line up correctly. The result was spun inserts, over and over again. After many of frustrating rebuilds I took the engine to the machine shop. That is how I found out the rods were not campatable with the 327 block. I had purchased these rods from the very same machine shop that discovered the problem. They made good on all the parts I had purchased for the entire problem and they rebuilt the engine the last time free of charge. It ran for six or seven years before I sold the truck to get a new one.
