Ya the compression realy bothers me as well. I honed the cyl with a 3 stone honer, spraying solvent in the cyl while honing.
I have already replaced the heads with fresh rebuilt heads. they have over sized vales, bowl hoged, 3 angle valve job, umbrella seals, and springs rated to .550 lift. I am running a crane came with .500 lift.
The only thing on the engine that was never touched, was the block, and all I did to it was clean it up and hone it out. The reason was it is the origianal engine in the car and I coould not find a 350 short block to save my life at the time. so it was either continue searching where I would only find ones that were to expensive or I just could not find any, or rebuild what I had. So I ended up rebuilding what I had. I got new flat top pistons and rings, new bearings and rebuilt heads.
The engine runs great and is strong, for a stock 305 bottom end, but like I said, that was all I had at the time.
Any way, I am going to get the 350 block, a fried said he can hock me up. I want to get it bored out and I would like to get a 383cid kit for it. Not sure about the heads, I may have to have these checked and use them for now, but I would like to get a set of performer heads for it, with a fuel injection set up, or a supercharger, but that is a while off. There is not substitue for Cubic Inches.
Loud exhaust saves lives.
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
