Cheap headers. Thin flanges. Warping. Flanges of at least 3/8" thickness are necessary to prevent warping and I'd like to see someone make 1/2" thick flanges.

Bottom line?? You need to stop buying cheap crap.

I have used the copper header gaskets and never had any leaks.
They are not cheap but do work!!

somtimes it helps if you cut the header flange between the ports, hot and cold plays tricks on thin pieces that or tied together, take headers off or loose and cut them with a sawsall, you will be surprized!!

Best way to cure a header flange leak on any thickness flange is to cut the flange with a hacksaw to within 1/4" to 3/16". Leave the flange "tied" together so the flange doesn't spring apart and mis-align, causing more problems with hard-to-start bolts. Remember to use a good quality gasket, not "Cheepo-Gasket Works". Whenever possible, I'll use a Mr. Gasket "Black" gskt.
After you get the header tight, look at the flange. It won't be straight. The flange will bent and twist to fit the head. This really works on small and big block Chevrolet, and anything that has flange material between cylinders.
I've used this method for years with great results.

On small blocks I use the factory exhaust gaskets....I never use header gaskets.... They are junk in my opinion.... I have used copper too.... You can reuse them....

I prefer the factory gasket because of the materials used and they are made to handle imperfections.... they always stay tight ( tighten them cold....they swell with heat)
