    305 Questions

I just brought a 305 short block for 50 bucks and i was going to rebuild it but one of my buddies said that there is a 335 stroker kit. i was wondering what should i do rebuild the 305 or build a 335. the motor is going into a 1992 S-10 2WD. also does anyone know what comes in the kit and is it good.

for cost I would just do the 305 as it is and use off the shelf parts... If you are going to spend hard earned money for a stroker crank and different piston...I would do a 350...it will be way cheaper

the 305 is already over square with its small bore, adding the 3.75 stroke crank adds cubes...but not effeciantly. Id stay with the 3.48stroke

JMO, but isn't stroking a 305 kinda like flogging a dead horse???? I guess I'd say sell it to somebody to get your $50.00 back, then find a 350. There's no replacement for displacement. !!!!

Let's put it in terms of what you plan to do with the truck.

If you are just looking for a good running cruiser, get yourself some 305 heads and intake and build the 305 back stock. That'll be the easiest on your wallet.

If you will be a regular at the drag strip, build a 350 or a 383 for it.

Don't waste your time, money and effort trying to hot rod a 305 in my opinion. Follow Dave's rule, there's no replacement for displacement.

i want to mke the truck into a fast street cruiser. My dad has tons of 350 parts and blocks. so i'll swap a block for a block. it wont be for a while though because i'm currently restoring my car a 1968 Pontiac Beaumont Custom 2 door hardtop which i have a 383 stroker for it which i got for free because there was a problem with the rod bearings. the motor came with a performance comp cam with a 488 lift in it. back to the 350 would i have to box the frame on my truck if i want to put 400-500 horsepower in the 350 or not. also what is the difference between the cranks and gaskets, heads of a 383 and a 350. does anyone know the engine swap kit for a 350

box the frame? no, but a 6-point rollbar or cage would stiffen up the whole mess so that you could be consistent at the track. Get yourself a NHRA rulebook to learn how to build it.

Basically the only thing that is different between a 350 and a 383 stroker is the crank, pistons, damper and flexplate.

Here's a link to the S10V8 forum. There are quite a few forums dedicated to this swap. Just do a search for S10V8.....
