I do have a 427 big block and a 500 caddy, but figure if I have so many 350 why not build one up and if it blows grab unotherone.(if i dont reck to much parts from blowing it) Just thinking what could be posible. Joe,
Seriously, you have posted here before. As I remember, you do puller competitions and want a lot of torque.
To build an 800 horsepower motor is no trivial matter.....look at the NASCAR guys. They are looking for that kind of power with pretty good engine life. Of course, they are also looking for the very last tidbit of horsepower that they can get......for them the length of the rods and everything else is extremely important. Those guys spend big bucks to get there.......and it aint a Summit catalog order. When you get into the high horsepower, small things make a big difference.....the wrong port size can kill a motor or can make the motor a king.
Knowing that regardless of the motor sport, horsepower costs money, we should all be realistic. Does a $15,000 motor that lasts one puller season fit? If it does, I suggest that you contact a known builder of really quality puller motors and talk to them about what it takes to get there. Guys here on this forum can give advice but that advice is worth exactly what you pay for it......zip.
800 hp is nothing to sneeze at......get the check book out!!

Joe, some of the really first rate World of Outlaw teams are getting 800 horse out of their 410 CI motor, with state of the art Brodix head, down tube injectors, magnetoes, running on methanol with ultra trick everything in the rest of the motor. Last I heard, a ready to run engine is right at $34k, then get it freshened about ever 10 to 12 shoes. 800 horse is doable with a small block, buy why?Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I do know how to put a motor together and build power, I have built motors before it is just that i wanted to see what sombody else has done with motors they built. I dont want to have sombody tell me all the parts to use and how to put them together. I have been looking at parts, been getting parts catalogs and helped lots of others put engines of all sorts together for many years. I may only be 17 but I was raised with a wrench in my hand. I only want some combos others have tried. Sorry if you think i am taking the easy path. Because Iam not.joe bogger

Its not like i can blow $34K on a motor today or the next and besides i want to build it myself, there is no fun in sombody building your rig , not noing nothing about it and just drive it.joe bogger

Joe, what Dave is trying to explain to you is that the $34,000 motor is typical of what it takes....regardless of who builds the motor. We have over $200,000 in equipment here and we CANNOT build those motors! It is not trivial. IF you see an item in a catalog, THAT item is NOT what you need for an 800 hp motor. Callies cranks are not cheap, Carillo rods are not cheap, the blocks are NOT something you make from a factory casting.
People that have a combo that makes this type of power cant just give you a list of components......because the components dont have part numbers......they are massaged components that have been tested in countless dyno runs.
Even if your labor was free, you will have over the $15,000 in such a motor......no matter who you are......and there are a lot of savvy folks out there building motors.
Great update, Mike! I adhere to Clint Eastwood's philosophy on aging, "Don't let the old man in!" Once in he's hard to evict. Thanks for keeping us involved with your projects!
