350 engine mods
ok well I have some questions on my upcomming project...
here is what my plans are..
350 with a supercharger possibly MPFI maybe just do carb(s)
I plan to go with mice flowing heads, eagle rods and forged pistons maybe even a forge crank if u guys think it is neccisary...
any info would be great to have what u guys recomend etc..
this will be a slow process but I want to do it right and have fun with it too.. I have no plans on what car to put this in yet just doing a build up from a running motor, on a stand

Dave, here's your reading assignment. Be sure and click on every link on the Blower Drive Service site. Excellent info.....

Attaboy Dave, if you're gonna do it, do it with GUSTOPLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

now those are future plans.. once I get the 350 here is when all the tare down and build up begins.. so to run a charger like that what kind of pistons and rods etc should I be aming for.. I figured forgted but I mean is there one brand u guys recomend over another.. remember I was a import guy now im comming over to the dark side lol
I used Weiscos in my Conquest and planned for Eagle H beams for rods in it as well..
are those still good brands for the V8's

Eagle H-beams suck if you are putting a blower on it - cause you'll be blowing them through the side of your block. They are only good for 500 hp. Go with ROSS forged dished blower pistons. Talk to the guys at ROSS - call them. ROSS piston are good for 9000 RPM with nitros, so they will handle you blower daily. The rods are another story, but stay away from Eagle. You need rods that will be good for 7-800 hp. Not to mention you better be using a forged steel crank and 4 boltmain. You static compression is only gonna be about 8.5 to one to run a blower. Guess you got about $3K to shell out for a blower, and another $3K to tie up in the bottom end and machine shop work. You just can't slap a blower on any engine, you have to build a blower motor.
GPZILLA - anything slower is just a speed bump.

Whats with spending all this high $ stuff ? Spooled up racing you say your building this motor up for a project, want to give a bit more info on what you are going to do with the motor and what kind of car is it going into ? Like is it for street, strip, strip and street or show or do you plan to put it into a boat ? Dont worry though theres some here that do marine application as well. If your doing street me and ltis10 should be able to give you some good clues for a reliable fun street motor for fast transportation. S"aerodynamics are for people who cant build engines"

weekend warior, strip, and show (engine show)
I mean I have always been into turbocharged vehicles thus why I am still in the build up process on my 2.6L starion turbo...
but I want to do a supercharged engine too.. and I have always been an import 4cyl guy or my best friend who owns a 73 240Z with a 2.8L turbo motor (L6) but none of us have ever done a V8 and they have no desire to but I DO... and I REALLY love the roots supercharged V8's I mean they not only look but sound and show nice...
as for the body it will go into as of now I have no plans... my wife loves thoe older split bumper Camaro, I would love to do either that or a nova or something of the sorts.. (if I could ever afford a older vette I would do that but I cant)
anywho I hope this clears things up a bit.. Im only 24 I have two kids and a wifre I want to build the motors as of now for some spare time to do and becuase I LOVE doing it.. in the near future wen I get these assemebed then I will dish out the cash to try and find a nice chassie to drop it into

The reasonable way
You remind me of when I was younger, my way of making cars go faster was to drop a blown moter into them.
From your list you want to build an all round fun vehicle.
First of all since it will mostly be driven on the street, limit the boost to 6 psi so on a 350 engine that will be 10% underdrive with a 671 blower. From what I have found you can get away with this boost pressure on a stock WELL CONSTRUCTED motor.
Now what I mean by this is sensible parts collection and put together thoughtfully.
Think about it, big heads and big cams are designed to do one thing, and that is to flow air, and they do this through getting the motor to rev higher. Theres another way to get an engine to flow air, force the air in, pump the air in, This is what street supercharging is all about. Blowres especially roots blowers build torque, lots of it, at low to mid range revs where you can really feel that in a light street driven car.
Motor specs, get yourself a good rebuildable 350 core motor with the preferable 010 casting number block, it should preferably have a stock bore, so that you can rebore it out 030, a 2 bolt block is fine it can take up to 600 hp, a reground cast crank with a generous fillet radius for strengh, stock rods with arp bolts and the big end bore machined for roundness, hyperutectic or cast pistons whatever you prefer, moly rings with an extra .002" end gap over stock to allow for extra heat. Heads stock smogger heads with the big combustion chamber and hardened seats with rebuilt valve guides and good valve seals stock spings with the intake springs shimmed to give an extra 10 lb seat pressure, stock cam, lifters rockers pushrods and lifters.
To qualify all this you wont need to rev this motor to make good HP your low to mid torque readings will increase up to 45% so you dont need to have the super expensive lower end parts because you wont need to rev the motor up to 7 or 8 grand.
The main problem you will have with a street supercharged engine is heat, lots of it. So you will need a good cooling system, thick radiator core and shrouds, a temperature guage mounted promenently, where your rev counter will usually be, and for the first few weeks drive around with one eye on that temperature guage.
Have a good free flowing exhaust, Tube headers and a good high voltage ignition to fire the thicker air in the cylindrers undre boost pressure. Run 2 600 crm vac sec Holleys with a stronger secondary diaphagm spring.
So all this should point you in the right direction for a start, oh yeah I was using a stock 671 Jimmy blower with good aftermarket bearings and modifyed end plates, no teflon and no fancy clearances, all clearances stock on the blower.
Good luck and have fun. S"aerodynamics are for people who cant build engines"

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
