I'll say a few more things. You can always get more power by adding a hotter camshaft, like the GM LT4 HOTCAM.... but it will require extensive ECM retuning and you won't get the full gain from the cam because of the stock heads.
The stock heads are fast burn (which is good) but they also don't flow air very well. Porting them will solve that problem. Reading up on them before porting is a good idea too:

They can be ported such that they can flow much better that stock up to the point where they can equal the flow and probably have a better burn than the L31 Vortec heads.
You could also buy a set of L31 Vortec heads + an appropriate intake manifold (either carb intake + adaptor for your TBI unit, or a new Vortec/TBI intake) which would cost a lot more $$ but sidetep the head porting. Keeping your stock cam, and adding a good exhaust you would be looking at a solid 300 fwhp and a car that would run low 14s in the quarter mile. If you swapped in a bigger cam you'd be in the 13s.
The final thing to say is that any way you choose to add power, especially beyond the cheap/easy cold-air-intake & exhaust mod, that you will need a new chip (EPROM) to properly supply the right amount of fuel at all loads and speeds. I won't explain this anymore other than providing some useful links, and to say that TBI is a speed-density type of fuel injection so it relies on precomputed tables for load, rpm, and fuel. There are several places that can help with a custom chip, but you won't get as good a result than if you spent the money to buy the programming tools and do it yourself.

The first model car I built was a 32 Ford roadster by Revell in the mid 50's.
How did you get hooked on cars?
