327 4 bolt mains?
I am looking at buying a 327 out of a 1965 960 3-ton truck. I am told it's 4 bolt mains. Is this possible? Also, would it be steel or cast crank? HP? Any other info about this motor would be appreciated.
Thanks

None of the 327s were 4-bolt. If you see one it's a hybrid.I intend to live forever; so far, so good.

Hey Southern Gent,

There were no 4-bolt mains on small journal 327 blocks, but the large journal 327's could have had 4-bolt mains because they are essentially a 350 block.

Those blocks did not have four bolt mains unless someone had the block machine for four bolt main caps. 327's with small journal cranks did not have four bolt mains from the factory. I know because I had one.Last edited by rumrumm; 07-17-2006 at 07:12 AM.

In 1965, my buddy and I bought a brand new 375 hp 327 short block from the Chev dealer. It did not have 4 bold mains. As I remember, it cost just over $300!!

This is interesting, I have never heard of one either. I just checked Mortec.com, every 327 casting number there of any year is 2 bolt block. When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!
Thank you Roger. .
