timing cover
I just bought a gear drive to replace my stock timing chain on my 350 chevy. My question is will the stock timing chain cover fit over the gear drive?

Yes it will. If I remember correctly, you have to install a spacer between the cover and the cam gear. That should be covered in the instructions.I intend to live forever; so far, so good.

Its been 10 years since I ran a gear drive...but I think I remember some will and some wont fit with the stock cover. What brand did you buy? Was it new? If so, they probably have instructions listed on the web. If not, if we knew which type it was one of us is bound to have installed one before. Let us know a little more info and we can probably help you out.

the gear drive is from proform and yes I bought it new straight from jegs. Will I have to buy the spacer that fits between the cover and the cam or does this come with the kit?

the cam and crank gear will fit with no problem the clearence issues are with the drive gears. You need at least .005 and .075 between the engine and the drive gear post. The drive gear posts will come in contact with the timing cover. All the install info are in the instructions that come with the kit. I purchased the same kit and the install was easy I'm running an aftermarket aluminum timing cover that needed to to be ground down. My install took about an hour.

Don't throw away the old chain and sprockets, you'll be putting them back in a few weeks.

DHOTROD...there are a few people on this site that simply do not like the gear drive set up. The term "poser" is used if you use the gear drive.

I never used the term "poser". I have seen too many guys waste time and money, and damage engines, with these setups. I have no doubt that some of them work, but there is absolutely no advantage to them, and they do screw up often, so why bother?
Thank you Roger. .
