    Question 305 hop up

I have a 84 Camaro with a stock 305 TBI out of a 91 Caprice that I want to get a little more power out of and incress the presentation factor. I am looking at the following choices to go with the cam and headers and would like input on what may give me the best results. Or if you have any suggestions please let me know. Also I know I could put a 350 in it, but want to keep my 305.

    1. Holley Stealth Ram MPFI system ( looks cool, gives me MPFI but $2,300 )
    2. Weland 142 supercharger W/ Holly 700cfm carb (should make the 305 scream, $2080 )
    3. Eldelbrock Dual Quad intake w/2 500 cmf eldelbrock carbs ( looks cool, $900)
    4. Eldelbrock performer intake w/ 600 cfm carb ( How much over the stock 170 hp will I get??, $400)

    Thanks,

    Charles:

One of tghe first things I did with my 305 besides having it bored, was to install a edelbrock performer dual plane intake with a 600 cfm carb. Was good for an estimate 12HP. Headers, cam. etc. brought it near 290HP. I was going to put a dual quad w 2 500 cfm carbs but was told to much carb for that engine. With a small blower and a 700 cfm carb should make a big difference. Just be sure to mate a cam with the blower and keep you compression down to no more than 8 to 1 or you won't be able to have full boost levels. Maybe others have tried a blower on a 305 and could give you more info.
Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Yep, you need lower compression ratio using a carb with a blower, 8:1 would be just right. You don't need a lot of cam either. Something in the range of 215-220 degrees of duration @ 0.050" lift would be plenty. Blower motors also don't like a lot of overlap, so have the cam ground on 114 degree lobe centers.

    me too?

My truck has the 305 with tbi, would all of these upgrades work on mine as well? Car craft has a build up that i like, (the first link that tech posted)

Also, I was told the other day about a truck that had a 350 block with 305 computer, heads, tbi, enlarged injectors. It was basically a 305 with a lot more cubes...How does this work out? It seemed to me that it was actually really impressive. Lemme know...

On the first link follow it back to the home page and it will give another hop-up stroking the 305 to a 335 and using a better TBI unit from Holley.

Thanks again, I had asked this question in another site for 3rd gen Camaros where most everyone is under 22 and never turned a wrinch two weeks of smart a$$ remarks from them and had all the info I need here in a couple of hours

    Great group of guys

    AHH!

Hold the phone people!! the 335 stroker motor, whats that gonna do on gas milage? I love the idea but i have to drive this puppy everyday and i dont exactly want to put my paycheck into my gas tank! Any idea on how much worse my milage will be on a 335 stroker motor as opposed to the stock 305 or a 350?

Not sure, will be more then the 305 but should be better then a 350. Also if you are running a carb or EFI should be the big factor. For me the Camaro is my weekend toy so gas milage is not a big factor but you may want to ask the guys that put out the stroker kit for some names of customers that you can talk to and get it from the horses mouth, hope it would not be from the other end

I have to decide by Saturday if I am going to go with the Holley TBI or go with a carb and drop the computer when I pick up the 305. (the guy I am getting the 305 from will sale me the computer and wireing hookup for 125) Got pros and cons each way, TBI I can keep everything under the hood but have the computer to work with, carb I can drop the computer and teach my son about carbs but may have to change the hood to a cowl or ram air hood to fit everything Just not sure whach way to go.

I go with the scooped hood anyways just because they look nice

So what kind of horse power can i expect from the 305 bored to 335 and stroked, using a mild cam, the holley tbi setup, i want hooker headers and exhaust dumpin out under the bed.

Any suggestions on heads? Or Cam? lifters?

I'm asking for help on getting quality ingredients for a quality finely tuned torque monster.

Any help on what brand makes what good component: like who makes great rockers, who makes a great cam...ect. you get the picture.

    Lemme know.
