    Carbs????

If I go with a carb over EFI, what is the difference between the Holly double pumper and the Edelbrock carb that I am looking at??? It has been about 20+ years that I have had a carb in anything and I can not remember what I did yesterday He!! when I went to pick up the Camaro the other day and it would not start, it took forever fo me to remember that I had to set the choke to start it

    Thanks,

    Charles

    carbs

Well to begin with holley's are what is called a modular carb and is of totally different design and function than the edelbrock which is really just an aftermarket carter afb with some updates. the edelbrock is simpler to calibrate but the holley will probably give you an edge over it if your engine combination is right. personally on a stock engine I wouldn't use a double pumper. I would go for a vacuum secondary holley or stick with the edelbrock if its the right cfm. Doulbe pumpers get crappy gas mileage on the street due to its mechanical secondaries and its double accelerator pumps(hence the name double pumper). A smaller cfm vacuum secondary single accelerator pump holley with the right discharge boosters will out perform a double pumper of larger cfm on a good street engine.

    Thanks,

It's not what you would call stock, it would go on a stroked 305 (335) with world torker heads an Edelbrock performer RPM intake and a compcam extrem cam. It's not my everyday driver

    I'd suggest a 650 cfm , Holley part # 4777 with a 50 cc pump on the primary side.

If your goal is goin' faster, go with the Holley. I don't see many Edelbrocks on the bracket race cars at Firebird.

I ran a 650dp on a 400sbc with an Isky 30/30 cam in a '62 pickup. I had a bit of bog on hard acceleration and the 50cc pump cured it.

    WOW.....

That is a huge pump shot for a 650dp. Do you remember what acc.pump cam you used (color) and on what # position the cam was on?

That's been about ten years ago, but if I remember right the cam was pink, 67's in the primaries, 76's in the secondaries and I don't remember which squirters I used. The manifold was an Offy 360 and I ran a set of Hedman shortys and a 454 flywheel.
