383 stroker project
Hello all, I am new to the boards.
I am in the middle of a 383 build. Thus far I have:
Block bored .030, everything else cleaned and checked.
400 crank turned down to fit 350 mains.
LT1 powdered metal 5.7 rods (clearance to .600 lift cam)
KB flat top hypereutectic pistons with moly rings (9.9 CR w/ 64 cc)
I have not done any clearancing to the block yet. I have not decided on a cam or heads either.
Questions:
Will I have to do any clearancing on the block?
When the pistons say 9.8 w/ 64cc heads, is that assuming a .041 gasket, and a standard block deck hieght?
Is 9.8 CR too high for pump gas? I will most likely be using cast iron Dart or Sportsman II heads.
I have seen some on line calculators that show HP vs CR, and if I drop my CR down from 9.8 to 9.2 via larger chambers, I will supposedly only lose 12 hp. Is this accurate?
I would like to end up with at least 400 hp, and equal torque figures.
This if for a 78 C10 truck with 3.73s and a built 700R4, so I would want a cam that pulls from, say, like 1800 to 6000.
Of course I want the "lumpy" idle.
I have on hand, an HEI distributor, recurved with Accel super coil, cap, and rotor, Performer intake, performer 600 cfm carb.
Will they be enough for the numbers i want?
Thanks in advance for everyones input.

As far as the output you are looking for, here is a link with lots of different 350 and 383 setups that might give you a good idea.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
