    Oil in distributor

I'm getting oil in my distributor. I am thinking the engine is over filled with oil. I just put on an 8 quart pan and filed it with 8 quarts. It shows high on the dip stick, but I put in exactly 8 quarts. Do I believe the dip stick or the pan? Would oil in the distributor be an indication of too much oil?

    Thanks for the help

    Always trust the dipstick.

The shaft has to have too much clearance to let oil up into the distributor, no matter how much is in the pan.
