MSD 6AL and HEI - how to?
Have a chevy 305 with HEI. Plan to swap in a 350 next spring, and use an MSD 6AL and will need a distributor for that application.
in the mean time, i'd like to get the MSD and play with it in the 305, which has an HEI.
SO, can i do that, and how is it hooked up?
Do i use the HEI coil or can i go with MSD or Accell coil?
If not HEI coil, new cap, dist or what mods?
Thanks,
chris
(this camaro is fighting us. needs exorcised i think, or peraps it just doesn't like hanging out with fords. - new trans and TC, and the TC is wrong. we asked -twice, and still were givne the WRONG one...so out it all comes again. AND the TV cable broke on installation, and after replaceing leaks at the trans... AND the shifter cable broke on the second start ....And folks ask why i prefer Fords! )Chris

I see no reason to use any other coil when HEI one of the best and most reliable systems out there.

If Ford is so good, why is it that so many hot rods, including Fords, have GM engines? I've even seen Mustangs and Cobra coupes with small block Chevies. But never a Chevy with a Ford motor. I also see GM parts being converted for use on Fords like HEI distributors and GM type starters, but never any Ford parts being converted for use on other vehicles. My sister drives an 83 Mustang so I have a little justification behind my reasoning.

Using an HEI on a Ford? First time i've heard that.
as to Ford parts on hot rods...ever hear of a Ford 9 Inch rear end?
It seems these days Fords use the 302 or nothing, the Chevy 350 is as common as the common cold in winter.
Chevy motors may be cheaper to build, and possibly put out more peak HP than a comparable fordbut the Ford engine will last twice as long.
And if you go to your local chevy dealer, you buy a vette or FWD...wheras Ford has the Stang and Crown Vic (or Tbird if you got a vette-sized wallet)
As interesting (and informative) as all this is, it answers not the original question - using an MSD 6 on a Chevy. I know one post said run the HEI, but a)we don't wanna, and b)the MSD is better.Chris

you're the one on '600 acres' with a '2 car rollback' and probably much more. You be the one with a vette sized wallet!Chris

My friends think i am a bit off the wall, umm, unique might be a PC term. I had a pinto, a 74 with the external glove box (advertised as a trunk, but tool boxes fit in trunks). had a 4spd and a 2.0L. fun little car. Bought it for $100, drive it and did some really bad body work (for inspection only, needed transport for college). wrecked it and still sold it for $200 to a fool who spent at least a grand on it - good bodywork, wreck fix, paint, wheels and tires, etc.
At lease Ford didn't make the Vega!Chris
