    Edelbrock Performer 1406 Carb

Just bought a new Edelbrock 600 CFM carb for the vette. I got tired of the Holley 600 Vac secondary. I've rebuilt it tens of times and it let go another power valve this weekend. Seemed that the carb had to be tuned everytime the weather changes. Any opinions on the Edelbrock? I'll be using it on the stock cast iron square bore intake manifold.

If there are no vaccum leaks, I have found the Edelbrock is real good for mpg, and smooth power transition. When I put my first one on, it was good out of the box. 1 1/2 turns out. I also like adding a 4 hole spacer under it.

    Edelbrock 1406

Carb. works just fine on my '63 327 - same application.
Word of caution - New does not mean that it will always work
right out of the box. Settings, etc need to be checked according
    to specs. Good Luck.

My dad just brought a new Edelbrock 600 CFM carb, he was having to tune his holley all the time too and just got fed up. He likes his new Edelbrock too.

Much prefer the Edelbrock for a street car. If you need to tune or just want to play with it, Edelbrock also makes a tune kit and different secondary spring for it also. My experience is that on the street they are a "set it and forget it" carb.

I have been looking at the 600 cfm performer for quite a while now. It cam highly recommended from by bro in law who is a mechanic by trade. I ordered it off of the internet, so I'll let you guys know when I receive it and get it installed on the car.

Walt, does the linkage adapt ok? Did you change the jetting?

We put a kit in the 1407 on my son's 351W, set it up according to the instructions, and put it on a rebuild. After firing, we did a little tweaking during the initial run in, and it has been going without a hitch every since. I am impressed with the Performer; and thats from an old dyed in the wool Q-Jet guy.

Sorry for the late response- no indication on my home e-mail from CHR.

As to linkage I cannot help you there. My 327 is hooked to an entirely non stock application (see Gallery) I use a cable hookup. No changes were required to jets, however I did need to reset the floats as they were a tad off, they were not as spec'd. by the Edel. booklet. Good luck. I'm sure you will enjoy.

Well I ran into a problem with the 1406. That would be the air cleaner. The old after market deep base unit off of the holley doesn't fit. The Edelbrock is about another inch wider. I can't add a spacer because it is almost into the hood now. I think I need another air cleaner base. It needs to be a deep base and also wide so it can miss the auto choke and accelerator linkage. Any ideas???

A drop base air cleaner should solve your problem, you can check them out at www.summit.com and other places.

I have a drop base now and it doesn't fit. With the electric choke and the throttle linkage the carb is wider than the inside diameter of a 14" air filter. No way a 14" drop base is going to fit down over the top of the thing.
