Space the head up off the workbench a little with a book on each end and the valves facing down. Choose a deep socket that is a little smaller than the o.d. of the retainer. Place the socket on the retainer and give it a good whack with a hammer. This will depress the spring and dislodge the locks and the whole mess will disassemble itself as if by magic.... Enjoy.
