how can you tell the difference between a 350 and a 400
i got a engine that i was told it was a 400 but soeone told me it was a 350 after lookin at it. can anyone tell if theres any thing i can look at to tell if its a 400.

400 has a balance weight cast in the front damper, and a welded on weight on the ring gear. It's the only externally-balanced SBC.

well, check the casting# if not pull a head and check a bore.....personally id check the casting#...

Check to see if it has three freeze plugs or a raised area between the other two freeze plugs where a center plug could go.
