    Head Help

I have a .030 over 350, forged crank, rods, and pistons, 750 eddy carb, weiand x-cellerator intake, magnum 292h cam, and 1.52 roller rockers to start with.
My question is about some good cast iron heads such as world products or dart, when I order the heads what size should I get the runners to keep decent torque down low??? 165, 170, 180, 190, etc etc. I will also have a 2400 stall on a build turbo 400 with a 3.73 posi rear.
Which heads would you recommend, doesn,t have to be dart or world, I would preffer some cast ones though.
Would Dart Iron Eagles with 180cc runners be fine?
Any guestimates for horsepower or torqueof engine finished?

Dart Iron Eagles are excellent heads, and they are a very good choice for a hot street car. Call Dart, talk with a technician who will take your engine specs, driving habits, etc. and give you a recommendation. My guess would be 190 intake runners would be about right.

If I'm not mistaken you can only get 180 or 200cc runners, I can't seem to find any 190cc iron heads. Also do you think I will think I will break the 400 hp line, as that is what I'm hoping for, if so by how much, again just a guestimate, I know I won't know for sure until I dyno it.

If you want to keep lower end torque, the 180's would work best. If you want upper end hp, the 200cc would be best. That cam is probably going to want something bigger than 180's as it will pull to 6500 rpm. If your cam was smaller, like an XE268 or a Magnum 270, I'd say go for the 180's. That 292 is not going to give you a lot of bottom end torque anyway, and I don't think 180's would help that much. Give Dart a call and ask one of their technicians for a recommendation.

Would the 180's be better for the XE 274? I've just recently sold my last 350 and it had 3/4 port, polished and gasket matched 305 H.O. heads with 1.94 and 1.5 valves, gasket matched performer intake and a magnum 270H cam in it bolted to a 700r4 tranny, don't know the power range of it but it would smoke the tires through 3rd gear with no problem

I know the cam won't give me much bottom end but I just want the heads that will give me the most with decent high rpm power. I will only need enough torque to get off the line ok.

The problem you are facing is that you have mismatched parts. Your single plane intake and cam choice will want 200cc heads. A single plane intake will be great for upper rpm power but not good for low end grunt. Your best bet may be going with the 292 cam, 200cc heads, X-celerator intake, a good set of headers and bump up to a 3000 or 3500 stall converter. That combination should give you over 400 hp and 400 ft. lbs of torque. You haven't mentioned what kind of car--light or heavy. That will make a big difference. What I mentioned above would work great in a '66 Nova, but not so hot in a heavy car like an Impala.

I think the 200 cc heads might be a little large. In our circle track car with a 388 we turn lap after lap at 7,300 r.p.m.s and we only use a 200 cc head with 2.08 valves and a mild port job.

Perhaps you should go to the website below and check out the dyno combinations. I found it useful in choosing parts to build my 383.
