    LT1 in a 66 El Camino

I have a 66 El Camino with a tired 327. I am going to put an LT1 in it's place. What do I have to look out for and does anyone have any suggestions. I am also replacing the power glide with a 350 turbo and overdrive. Front disc will be next upgrade.

It's a 1995 LT1 with computer, alt, power steering, starter sensors. Complete Show polished motor and was told all I have to do is use my motor mounts. I think I need a fuel pump and I need to wire the computer but don't have a clue on how to do that. Also I think the alternator needs to be wired differantly. I was also wondering about the yoke to the transmission and weather a powerglide has the same spline pattern as a 350 turbo.

It is on it's way with the motor. I am trying to get my ducks in order so I can do this over the weekend. My car is a daily driver for work so I can't have it down for too long.

good luck on over the week end. if you have a store bought harness you want have any problems. the alt wiring is probably in there also. are you using stock manifolds or headers? i guess all you will need is the hi pressure pump and a return line going back to the tank. the yoke is dif. you will need a elec. fan. , is the ac in the stock location or moved to the top?

I'm deleting the AC since my car didn't come with it. I'm using headers and they have the boss for the O2 sensor. Sounds like a bit much for a weekender? I want to get every detail worked out in advance and have the parts ready. Drive in on a friday night and drive out on Sunday afternoon ( I hope).

    Go here:

Talks to John, he's the best. He is building my custom harness and reprogramming the computer for my LS1 swap as I type.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

here is the dif. in the trans. you want have any problems. im sure you'll have good instructions with you wiring harness. the cooling fan, the fuel pump, the drive shaft, and the exhaust will give you the most problems.

If you need a harness I have one from a 1994 Firebird, automatic.
In good condition, no fire or water damage. Needs 1 or 2 pigtals.
    $200.00 with free shipping.

I did the 95 LT1 into a 67 Chevelle ,I used a custom harness and the stock 4l60 trans if you have any questions let me know ,it was an easy set up ,we used an external fuel pump if I had it to do over I would move the engine back about 2 inches from stock because the Lt1 sat way back in in a camaro ,A friend is doing one in a Nova and he bought the intake to use a distributer and carb
just finished a frame off resto mod 67 Chevellewith 383 stroked LT1 and a 75 mb 450 SL (not a hot rod but a sweet old convertable}Now am restoring a 69 Nova SS

I am prety close to droping it in now but I am wondering about the radiator hook up. I have a custom harness coming from fuel injection specialities. The exhaust system is next on my list of things to get together. I will be using a th350 trany. I hope to start on this heart transplant next week. Some one mentioned that I might not be able to use the oil pan from the LT1 due to clearance at the cross member. Did you have any clearance problems? Thanks, Don
