383 stroker parts need help!
ok, I know I am going to do a 383 with a 6 71 blower, already have the bottom end decided, now I need to start the slow process of assembling, is there a bare block already machined (4 bolt main) already decked, bored, i can buy anywhere? or a shortblock assembley with forged pistons to end up with 8:1 with AFR 195cc Street heads, straight plug w/ heat riser 72cc combustion competition package? I also am wondering about the cam, I want it to still be somewhat street driveable (weekends/to the track) on a 3500 stall with the th400 tranny, what cam should I go with if im expecting anywhere from 8-12lbs of boost from the charger? I want to be near the 10 IF I get traction (going into a 2001 s-10) so is there a shortblock already made up to specs to hold up to this kind of power/air from a blower, or is there a good bare block to start with?

Do some research--call the major cam companies (Crane, CompCams, Lunati, Crower), give the tech person your specifications, and have them give your their suggestion. Compare them and choose the one that is closest to the average as far as lift and duration go. You should find a good, reputable and experienced machine shop to work with you on machining the 350 block--boring, clearancing, align boring, etc. Get a forged rotating assembly and have it balanced. The machine shop will want the rotating assembly and the cam to be able to clearance the block. Expect to shell out around $3000 for the short block.Last edited by rumrumm; 10-18-2005 at 02:53 PM.

would you recommend maybe looking on ebay? I have seen some shortblocks assembled already with your choice of cam for around $1900, and I may be able to get my choice of pistons as well, (refurbished junkyard block) and they come with a 205 year warranty, does that sound like a decent start? usually I only look at the ones with an eagle 4340 forged crank, eagle rods, arp studs and bearings ect... and they are all already machined, plues they are from speedshops so they can build you whatever specs you want, ill post some links when I can find some starts

not so sure about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...07576184QQrdZ1
BTW are the hypereuratic pistons at all any good? would I be better off spending the extra $300 for diff pistons? also, anyone know where I can get a built 700r4 tranny?Last edited by Xtremes10; 10-18-2005 at 05:31 PM.

hyper pistons aren't bad at all, i use them and a lot of builders i know use them...If your talking about a full out power stompin machine though, i would look at the forged...

I wonderr if I could go through a lot of classifieds and find like a used basically stock 383, have it machined to new, put a new crank in it, pistons, rods, ect... and still be under $3000?

Don't try to cut corners on the short block. You will eventually be sorry. Do it right, and you should have an engine that performs well and will have a long life. Cutting corners with a blower is a recipe for disaster.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
