Folks have unlimited time and money and they fall into 3 categories...

    1. Hollywood Stars - self indulgent brats, but harmless to most folk

    2. Carnegie and the like, that actully do something good with their money. They are still around but less visible and usually a bit more self serving than 100 years ago

    3. Dictators like saddam Insane, castro, etc. This path solves no problems and can cause quite a few!

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

well, bribe the guards, or where you are kept, do they call them guards or orderlies? They must not keep you strapped down all the time, unless your punishment, i mean, treatment, is to contribute to this forum.

I never said i wasn't crazy, it's just the guys in the white coats haven't caught me yet

Also, i am, umm, between engagements, sponging off the state of PA (hey, i paid my taxes, i EARNED it) and taking car of my toddler boy. A second child is due Oct 9, and by year end i need to find gainful employment again. I will still be home 'days' as daycare for 2 rugrats is prohibiitive. Besides, hanging out with me all day will make them, umm, more interesting adults! Si I should still be contributing here, sorry!

I'll have to find the pics of the cars i drove back in college - they say alot about my substance abuse, err, state of mind.

if i had a nearby fellow with a like mind (or lack there-of) and mechanical ablity the world would be a more dangerous place I'd fit right in with those junkyard/monster garage folks. My son won't be too young for long...and kids have such great imaginations!

    Adult legos anyone?

I'm glad to see you guys are explaining & trying to help . And just to add my 2 cents,...........lanceX ... I have never seen a good 305 ( heard about them but never seen one ). If thats all you got , thats how it is (but don't wast your money on it ). just start saving for a 454 or to rebuid the 350 . And while your saving & working, ask lots of questions . Pay-ATTENTION & don't eat your books. It sucks but thats how it is sometimes . Just like these guys are saying" its not worth it", SAVE YOUR MONEY. and you have two ways to go , fast of efficient .

Streets is in NY, I am in Pennsylvania.

Hot Tank - a large tank of casutic chemiclas that isheated to help them work better. the whole engine block, heads, etc is put in teh tank to clean off all the old grime, gunk, paint, etc.

To change a cam you will need gaskets for:
water pump, intake, timing cover, vavle covers, possibly oil pan.

you remove water pump and timing cover, valve covers and intake manifold, distribuotr and fuel pump (unless it is elec), fan shroud and alternator/AC. you then remove the lifters and push rods, timing chain. cam will slide out the front of the motor. In the truck you MAY be able to leave the rad in place, but it it easier if you remove it (the coolant is out anyway). You will need torque specs for the intake for reassembly.

To do this you will be removing the distributor, so you'll have to set the motor on TDC #1 (top dead center on #1 cylinder on teh compression stroke) BEFORE taking things apart, and make sure the motor stays there. verify this as you install the cam, dist and then again before you go to start it up. then you can check timing again.

taking hte cam out of your old 350 will be a good primer as to what you will have to do on teh 305 to put it back together.

if you can get experienced help GET IT, otherwise get a book and read it - 3 times.

    Mowing grass

He's a bit young to mow...i started on a cub cadet at about 7. Why i wasn't killed for doing donuts i'll never know...

He's almost 3...so 4 more years and he can take over. Why?
    A) cheap driving lessons (i can get so close side to side in ANY vehicle i scare passengers)
    B) he wants to eat, wear clothes, sleep inside
    C) Cause i said so
    D) Cause he thinks its fun (Dont YOU tell him different!)

    E) Cause he wants a car at age 16, and this is the ONLY way I might be talked into helping him get one (yeah right. Just like on TV, he can have my car, I can get a Vette to repalce it...)

If I had the money to do these options then I would buy a 350. but if the 305 is what yer workin with and ya wanna slowly attain horse these parts can be added one or two at a time. Anyway take a look at the link.

I am in the same position in that I have a 305 in my 82GMC. Thses are the things that I have done that worked great with out breaking the bank. I call them my under 200 dollars each mods. Ecapt for the intake and Carb.
First I replaced the intake with a Wieand Stealth dual plane and Holley 600cfm vaccum secondarys.
Accel HEI. I latter added the MSD 6al locked out the Distibutor and put in the MSD Timing computor with 4 degree retard at 2500rpm.
Next a catco cat and then a Flow master mufller. I made my own exausht pipes going staight out the back. I did make my own y pie to go from a 1-2 tail pipes it is a delta shape with an internal expansion chamber then it feeds into my 2.5 inch pipes works real good for scavanging.
A home made ram air set up 15.00 dollars in parts.
These mods have really made a big difference in both the performance and gas milage. My buddy has an 80 model chevy pickup his is the standard bed mine the long bed he has a 350 . I can blow him a way going down the road he avreages 12mpg I average 17 mpg
What I am trying to say is dont blow a large chunk of cash but allso you do have a lot of potential. Allso all these mods will bolt to a 350 if you ever get one.
