??????CAN SOMEONE TRANSLATE THIS??????? it makes very little sense to me! HEI? MSD 6al? catco cat? I've no clue!!
- HEI - High Energy Ignition. Gm's name for electronic igition where the coil is in the distributor cap.
MSD - Multi Spark Discharge (also a company that makes ignitions). Stock ignition systems make ONE spark to fire the mixture. MSD ignitions fire multiple sparks very quickly to fire the mixture.
6AL - a model of ignition made by MSD. Go to http://www.summitracing.com and search on MSD and you will see that they make many different types of ignitions - some you can set at what RPM the ignition cuts out, etc.
catco/cat - both shortend versions of catalytic converter. installed on 99% of gasoline cars in teh USA since 1975. looks like a muffler, costs lots more. assuming a proper fule mixure is burnt, the exhaust then goes into teh cat and using catalyzers (metals, and other chemicals) the exhaust is scrubbed clean of some pollutants. IF the car is running too rich, you will smell sulphur from the exhaust (rotten eggs). Also, the cat will overheat and melt down.

Hows that go...half a pack of smokes, full tank of gas, sunglasses on and it;s dark outside...hit it!
Had a friend years ago had a retired Fury police car...440 motor, interesting tweaks inthe car, as in fast idle controls, and such.

dang marksdoor69! thats a nice truck! so it had a 305 in it originally? how much was the engine? well im gonna have to get a new transmission and a new rear end real soon. i can't turn my truck on with out jiggling my shifter j/k but lately i have to put it in neutral to start and i am also getting tired of turning the inition over many times to get my truck started in the morning. i need an electric choke i think.??????

Jiggling the shifter and starting in neutral is NOT the trans - you have a neutral safety switch and it is worn out or out of adjustment.

This is my first post, so I hate to seem argumentative, but a Lot can be done with a 305, and there are some great parts out there to make them run like a scalded dog. I have a 305 and like the rev range up to 8000 that is available.
The 305 is of course 5000 cc, so there are plenty of good used race parts cheap that are fine for street /show. I took a 327 out and put a 305 in...

CanAmThunder,
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for participating...
Now then, you took out a 327 and put in a 305? You need to change your meds dude. There is an OLD OLD OLD saying that is 100% true in hot rodding (of any kind) THERE IS NO SUBSTITUE FOR CUBIC INCHES! Size matters man.
All else being equal, the 327 is about 10% bigger, the 350 18%, and that means THAT much more power, etc.
Also, I'd like to see this 8,000 RPM revving 305 you speak of! It may exist, but what all did you do to make it reve like that and stay together?Chris

Sorry Lance, you haven't hit the top ten yet, but I think the horse may be near his end.
For those interested, near the top of the home page is a link called "top 10", it will show you the highest ranked posts in several catagories.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
