I wanted to see if we could come up with a list of companies that sold performance parts that I can afford.I know horsepower is not cheap, but I don't have 3000 to start off with a bare block. Thanks

3,000 for a bare block? What have you been looking at?At 550 h.p. you are looking at full roller gear or a lot of N20.If you are careful you could build a very nice 383 turn -key for $5,500 to $6,000 that would make the 550 you are looking for.

Build a 383 man, speedway motors has good kits that are fully balanced for under a grand. That along with an awesome cam some compression(heads&Pistons) will make you a screamin' 383 of course along with a good carb intake headers. great hp and torque numbers across the board..

for those kind of numbers, why not go BIG?

    550 is a simple task for a 454.

Torque is probably a more important number than horsepower on a heavyweight pickup. You might want to consider building up a big block for the truck. And as Tech and some others always remind us, the 500 CI Caddy motors make some outstanding torque numbers....... JMO
