What happened to the brackets from the 305? You won't gain much if any fore-aft movement by changing the pulley on the alternator.

I have rebuilt my motor 3 years ago and put new alternator and power steering pump brackets on. I have so much trouble getting the right combo of tightness and alighnment with my belts. they either flip or shoot off at high RPM. I have been told that it is the pulleys because they wobble dew to the machineing.
