67 327 Camaro engine needs horsepower
I just recently got a rebuilt 327 that I plan on putting in an S10. I'm wanting to get more horsepower out of it (I believe this one has 210 horse now). It has a 2-barrel carb and I was wondering if I put a 4-barrel carb on it and headers, are the original heads and original cam good enough on this engine to handle the new carb and the new headers? Or should I start from the beginning with a higher horse 327 engine??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and welcomed!!
I don't necessarily want a race truck - that's not what I'm after. I just want it to run and sound good! I would like to get in the upper 200 horsepower range.

well it all depends what size CFM carb u get i would go with a holley also if you get a 4bbl carb u will meed to buy a new intake manifold so the 4bbl will bolt up. the biggest carb i would put on that motor would be a 600CFM that might be a little too much for ur set up. go for like 550cfm or something. just dont put a huge monster carb on it and get a nice intake manifold and u should have a pretty nice setupHonda Motor= 1.6L
Soda Bottle= 2L

I would guesstimate that a set of small-tube equal-length headers going into pipes not to exceed 2 1/4" diameter, through an "X" connector, then into separate mufflers of your choice along with a 550-600 cfm 4-bbl like Tyler said should net you about a 40 horsepower gain, maybe a little more.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

You could check out your local bone yard for a quadrujet carb and steel manifold which would work great for your motor if your trying to save some money (go with pre-80 or you'll have way too many vacuum lines and emissions) or you could get a holley or edelbrock 600cfm vacuum secondary carb and a performer aluminum intake. Set of full length 1 5/8 headers and exhaust like Tech recommends and you'll be straight. If you ever wanted more you could always top that combo off with a good economy/torque cam and add more milage and power.RAY

I agree with the previous posts as to how to wake that 327 up a little bit. You might want to add a distributor kit to get you advance all in by 3 grand, with base timing set at 8-10 degrees advanced. In both my daily drivers I added Crane econopower cams installed straight up. That really woke things up!

327.. More power?
Hi, I have a very nice Edelbrock 2101 Performer aluminum intake and a 1406 electric choke 600 CFM Edelbrock carb that will fit you 327 engine. You can buy this set-up for 210.00 plus shipping from zip 88337. The carb has been overhauled and all the adjustments done. The carb does not look new but works great! The manifold looks great and there are no cracks and all the threads are good. If you have some interest I can email pics. thanks, Topless. dingman@zianet.comBuy a Buick, they got plenty power!

Power in a small block Chevy is in the heads, if I wanted to put a 4-barrel intake & larger carb. on I would find a good set of heads in my price range.
I use this formula for starting carb size : cubic inch of the engine times the max rpm I intend to turn the engine, divided by 3456, and that gives me cfm's of the carb.Jim
