    '64 Impala engine?

A friend of mine wants to drop a new engine into his '64 Impala. He doesn't have a shop to work on the engine/car. He's more looking for a crate engine to drop into it. The Impala is his baby, and he doesn't do any strip running or street racing. He just likes to cruise in it on nice days.

Since he just wants to drop something in, I thought his best bet would be to just get a 350HO Deluxe and a Turbo 350 transmission and throw those in there (And then maybe I can talk him into buying a good dual exhaust system to make the girls wet when he drives by). Or, at the very least, get the 290HP Goodwrench engine and have a mechanic finish it off for him and drop it in.

Then, take the 327 and 2-speed transmission (powerglide?) and put them in a box in the corner to save for later. Maybe even make the box out of plexiglass so his friends can "Oooh!" and "Ahhhh!" over it when they come over.

What do Y'all think he should do?

id keep the 327 in it. if its tired, rebuild it. keep it original. if he does swap it, then yes make sure he keep the 327 around.
