    Vortec No-Machine Valve Springs!

A little info back to the group,

I came across the following valve springs and retainers from Crane Cams that increase lift clearance on Vortec heads without the need to machine anything.

They are Crane Cams, PN: 10309-1 Springs and Retainers. About $160.00 for a set of 16.

According to the Sallee Chevrolet site these are good for up to .550 lift.

Probably not the end all solution for the more radical amoung us but for those that want more cam than the .450 lift limitation of the stock vortec head allows, these may be a cost effective solution.

    Anyway - there ya go!

Well Erik, $160.00 for this set up is considerably cheaper than going with new larger springs and the required machining to install them.

I will have a total of 410.00 in my new Vortec heads with these springs. Yes, I stole my heads from a guy that gave the pair of them up for 250.00 - unused!

THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE WAS THE DART AND A MAJORITY OF AFTERMARKET HEADS COME MACHINED TO ACCEPT 1.550 DIA. SPRINGS.A PERSON ON THE AVERAGE WILL SPEND MORE MONEY ON SET OF VORTEC HEADS THAN THEY WOULD ON THE DARTS TO DO THE SAME THING.

Can't you buy the tool for $30-$40 and do it with a drill?

Not trying to be argumentative Erik, and no doubt that Dart makes great heads, but the cheapest Dart heads I found start at around 657.00/pr bare and go up from there. The assembled SS heads are 814.00/pr. For 690.00/pr you can get new Vortec's ready to run with the springs I mentioned.
