Header advice
I have a 383 with hooker super comps 1 3/4 primarys on it now. Since the headers were left bare they are now getting to the point of going bye bye. (new pair will be jet hotted)..... looking through the summit catalog, I couldnt believe the price of new super comps as compared to the Hedman full length and even the summit full length headers. Does anybody have any experience with the Hedman and Summit brand headers? What kind of difference is there between all three? They all have 5/16 flanges and 18 gauge tubes, so I am assuming that build quality and brand name have a lot to do with the pricing difference. Thanks in advance, John.Last edited by ucmung; 12-14-2005 at 08:54 PM.

I used Hedman 68600 on my 406. Sealed right up with normal exhaust gaskets. No leaks in over a year.I intend to live forever; so far, so good.

anybody else want to chime in about whether or not the hedman and/or summit headers are worth it?

Seems everything I build I end up building a custom set of headers. If I were buying a set ready made, wouldn't really matter who's they were of the top brands, I would definitely get the ceramic coated ones.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Hedman's are fine, get them coated and use stock Chevy gaskets.Ken Thomas

thanks for the replies, i would rather get custom made headers just so i dont have to worry about the dreaded speed bumps, but im not willing to spend $800. - $900. for em. the hookers i have now on my 79 nova are beat up because the car sits so low, and they are touching the canton oil pan. Is it possible to have someone bend the pipes if i have clearance problems with the hedman or summit headers before jet hotting?

Should be able to find someone to do a bit of tweaking on a set of store bought headers. An area like Ft. Lauderdale should have some competent shops that would be able to handle it.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
