I've filed down some pretty bad nicks and got by with it. Forget to put a hose on the rod bolts and let the bolt nick the shaft. in the old days we would clean up a shaft that had turned a bearing, with a piece of emery cloth and shim the bearing up with shim stock, but people don't do that no more.Mike

rod bolts raise hell on the crank. i have fix small nicks on cranks i use a fine honing stone and then hit it with some 400 wet dry paper or send it down and get it polished i still do it this way but i use a crank polisher and polish them my self you need to make sure it is low or the crank will eat up the bearing. the dent will raise up the sides of the low spot you need to make sure this is not hi.
I did not know Mike very well, we exchanged some messages from time to time but from what I understand he was a very good man. I was sad to learn about this
