    Our motor thoughts

Well let me tell you first off, I'm not super knowledgable when it comes to motors, and this question may be really open ended, but I'm just looking for something to work around. I'm ordering a few books from Jegs for my birthday so I'll be able to teach myself a lot more.

We are planning on running around 500-600 hp/tq in the falcon, and we thought it would be nice to go with a 350 due to pricing, availability and size. We would like to use something like an 8-71 blower w/o a cooler because they are an extra $1k or so. Do yall think we could make it on pump gas, or will we need a bit larger motor for this type of streetable power? Alchohol/race gas for the strip or to achieve the hp/tq mark could maybe be worked out, but it still needs to run on pump gas for the street. So, would the 350 and 8-71 make the streetable power, or do we need to up the size a little?

My dad was looking at this:http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0719&langId=-1

While I was considering one of these :http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0719&langId=-1

    Any idears?

Yes, you can make that kind of hp and torque with a 350 and still drive it on the street. If you work with a blower company like BDS (Blower Drive Service), they can advise you on what you will need to make that kind of power.

Thanks a lot. I will save the email or call to BDS, Weiand or some other company until I get my literature and do some research. I don't want to call them and end up stutterin and goin, errrrrr, ehmmmmmmmm.

Pat Ganahl is a long-time hot rodder and journalist. I've read this offering by him and recommend it....

But you know, honestly, if I were in your position, I'd be thinking big block Chevy. It just doesn't get much better when you want to go really fast and stay together.

I would like to go with a gigantoid turbo, but the project is mainly my fathers dreams, minus the 64' Chevelle part. He always wanted a blown car, and loved the performance of his friends blown cars, and we have the chance, so a blown car it will be I'm not sure why we don't go with a Ford, my father has nothing against teh company (as you can see :P) but we just decided on a chebbie motor.

That will go on my list of books. I'll re-read the BDS tech pages.

BB sounds nice, but will it be as cheap to get built as the SB would? I know we would start off with more power, and be able to run the blower on a more reasonable scale, but what about general parts for the BB, how would that come out financial wise?
